The Analyst Scout Dossier

The Analyst, Scouted Like a Footballer A scouting report for the analytics & economics craft, written the way a football club writes one: six pillars of attributes, twenty-two roles from the pitch to the touchline, and the dimension most skill matrices miss — Visibility. This is a framework, not a quiz: the shape it draws is the point.

01 · Rate YourselfDrag the sliders — against your hiring pool, not the world's best.
02 · Read Your ShapeThe radar, the created-vs-captured gap, and your verification risk update live.
03 · Find Your RolePin your Current and Target on the role map to see your craft gap.
Two rules before you rate.  1 · Rate against your hiring pool (people you'd compete with for the role), not world-class — comparing every axis to the global frontier flattens your shape and hides your spike.  2 · Rate Technical unassisted (what you can do and supervise without AI). The AI uplift lives in Throughput. The gap between them is your verification-risk zone.

A role is how you play; a position is where on the pitch — so most roles span several positions, and the pitch maps to the data value chain by phase. Fit % is craft-readiness, computed live from your attributes. Open Role, translated on any card for the plain-football definition and what the role looks like in a job posting. Pin one role as your Current and one as your Target — the target pin unlocks its craft-gap and stardom readout. The Trap and Avoid labels are the framework's own opinions; those stay. The last zone steps off the pitch entirely: the management fork — multiply through people, or through process.

The footballer's arc is compressed — and the deep move is forced by physical decline. The analyst's arc is the inverse: a long runway, no physical cliff, where judgment pulls you deep voluntarily, and exposure compounds the entire way.

The footballer: ~20-year arc, peak ~27, dropped deep by fading legs, stock depreciates at retirement.
The analyst: ~40-year arc, no decline, pulled deep by compounding judgment — and exposure is a stock that appreciates the whole way.
